Spring is when Hvar begins to wake up for the season — and without the height-of-summer crowds, the island is wonderfully open.
For those looking to experience Hvar this way, a private villa makes the perfect base, with space to enjoy the views and freedom to explore the island at your own pace.
Over the years, we have come to know each villa well. Some we visit often, others we return to simply because they always feel right for the season. Each spring, a few villas stand out because they are perfectly attuned to this quieter moment on Hvar. Here are six we find ourselves recommending again and again.
Villa Ceto, Stari Grad

For a spring stay close to the soul of Stari Grad, Villa Ceto is often our first suggestion. Completed in 2024 after five years of thoughtful development, the house sits just outside the historic centre. It’s close enough for a gentle walk to the harbour, yet far enough away that evenings remain peaceful.
Designed by the local architectural studio Morpharos, the villa balances clean contemporary architecture with the warmth of Mediterranean living. Five bedrooms that sleep ten open directly onto a long veranda overlooking the garden, where olive trees surround a heated swimming pool and a generous outdoor table that quickly becomes the natural gathering place.
Upstairs, two expansive roof terraces look out across Stari Grad bay. In spring, when the air is still crisp in the evenings, it is the perfect place to sit with a glass of wine and watch the light settle over the harbour. The entire house feels relaxed and open, and it’s a natural fit for the slower season.
Villa Chaos, Veli Dolac

Villa Chaos is one of those places that resists a tidy description. Part of its charm lies precisely in that feeling. Set in the quiet cove of Veli Dolac on Hvar’s southern coast, the house seems to exist somewhere between land and water, facing the wide Adriatic with little around it but olive groves and the sound of the sea.
Built in 2018 on the footprint of an older dwelling, the architecture honours traditional Mediterranean forms while introducing playful contemporary details. Handcrafted wooden elements, vintage oak flooring and carefully chosen textures give the interiors an understated warmth. Outside, a small swimming pool, shaded terrace and fireplace encourage afternoons spent outdoors.
What makes Chaos truly memorable, though, is its sense of simplicity. The property runs entirely on solar energy and attracts travellers who appreciate a more mindful approach to travel. A short path leads down to a quiet pebble beach, while Hvar Town is just ten minutes away by car. Still, most guests quickly realise the greatest luxury here is the silence of the cove itself.
Villa Atropos, Hvar Town

For those who enjoy the atmosphere of Hvar Town but prefer a degree of privacy, Villa Atropos strikes the ideal balance. Newly completed in 2024, this three-bedroom house sits just above the shoreline, looking out toward the Pakleni islands scattered across the horizon.
The villa unfolds across three levels, each oriented toward the sea. Wide windows fill the interiors with natural light, while a spacious terrace and sleek urban-style pool create an easy transition between indoor living and open air.
Despite its tranquil position, the historic centre of Hvar is within easy reach, as is the pebble beach at Pokonji Dol. The owners’ personal taste runs quietly through the house — calm tones, well-chosen furnishings and details that make the villa feel lived-in. Guests quickly settle into a comfortable rhythm of their own here.
Lola’s Summer House, Hvar Town

Hidden just above the lively streets of Hvar Town, Lola’s Summer House feels like a secret retreat tucked inside the island’s most exciting corner. With its traditional stone façade and green shutters, this three-bedroom villa captures the enduring character of Dalmatian architecture while offering the ease of a carefully restored home.
The atmosphere is warm inside. Exposed stone walls and wooden floors create texture, softened by a palette of gentle natural tones. Paintings by Croatian artist Saša Šekoranja add a distinctive personal touch, giving the rooms an unforced elegance.
The main house has four bedrooms, while a separate pavilion beside the pool provides an additional private space for guests. Once you step outside, a saltwater swimming pool sits within a leafy courtyard framed by olive trees, with a discreet jacuzzi tucked into the garden. Though Hvar Town is only moments away on foot, the villa feels remarkably secluded.
Villa Phaunos, near Vrboska

If we had to choose one villa in our collection where we could easily imagine spending an entire season, it would likely be Villa Phaunos. Set deep within a pine forest and just a short walk from a secluded pebble beach, the villa feels completely immersed in nature while remaining only minutes from the charming harbour of Vrboska.
Architecturally, Phaunos is striking. Glass walls wrap the structure, allowing the surrounding landscape to become part of daily life. Wherever you stand, whether in the kitchen, the living room or the bedrooms, the view remains constant: pine trees, Mediterranean plants and occasional glimpses of the sea.
The first time we visited, a bird sat quietly on a branch outside the living room window, completely undisturbed by our presence. It felt like stepping into a scene from a nature documentary and a small moment that perfectly captured the spirit of the place.
Inside, the house offers four spacious bedrooms and generous open living areas, all encircled by a wide terrace that traces the building’s shape. It is a villa that combines bold design with a profound respect for its surroundings and is ideal for guests who appreciate architecture as much as landscape.
Villa Hermes Green, Hvar Town

Just steps from the shoreline on the quieter edge of Hvar Town, Villa Hermes Green leaves a strong impression from the moment you arrive. Together with its twin property next door, it has become one of the island’s most distinctive contemporary residences.
Located about 15 minutes on foot from the historic centre, the villa offers five bedrooms, each opening onto a balcony with vistas across the Adriatic. The interiors balance modern design with a welcoming atmosphere, combining natural materials with soft tones and subtle green accents that echo the Mediterranean landscape outside.
Life here naturally unfolds outdoors. Terraces cascade toward the swimming pool, where the horizon stretches across open water framed by tall pines. A pebble beach sits just below, close enough that guests move easily between the sea and the house throughout the day.
Everything about Hermes Green is carefully considered, from the proportions of the spaces to the harmony of colours and textures. After a few days, many guests discover they have little desire to venture far beyond the villa itself.
So, which villa will you choose this spring?
