There are villa agencies. Then there is Villas Hvar. To call it a business would be missing the point entirely. What Majda and Dalibor have created is a deeply personal, beating-heart kind of venture born of love for their island, shaped by years of experience and guided by an unwavering commitment to care for their guests as though they were dear friends returning home.

At first glance, the villas dazzle. Luxe sanctuaries kissed by lavender and salty air, hidden in sleepy villages or perched above glittering seas. But it’s what happens behind the scenes — often unspoken yet always unexpected — that reveals the true soul of Villas Hvar. Because Majda and Dalibor don’t just arrange villa holidays. They move mountains.

Figs, family and unexpected joys

Take Dalibor for instance. One summer, a family booked one of the most luxurious villas in the Villas Hvar collection (a stay worth €30,000). Dalibor personally guided them through the island’s finest treasures. They sipped rare wines in tucked-away cellars, drizzled golden olive oil over warm bread in secret konobas only locals know and feasted until the stars blinked on.

Somewhere along the way, the father casually mentioned he loved figs. Dalibor smiled. He altered the course of the day, steering them to his own olive groves where fig trees bowed under the weight of ripeness. The man was elated, pockets brimming with sun-warmed fruit, declaring them the best figs he’d ever tasted. For days he spoke of little else. That joy? That memory? It wasn’t listed on any itinerary.

Coffee, culture and the Hvar way of life

Or consider the three older couples who came for a slow tour of Hvar’s villages. Dalibor introduced them not only to the island’s scenery but its soul. At each stop, they shared a drink, a slice of cake and a quiet moment. He told them about his daily ritual – dropping the kids off at school then sipping morning coffee with friends at the same seaside cafe.

He received a Christmas card months later. They’d brought the tradition home with them. Every morning they now meet for coffee before work. A little slice of Hvar thousands of miles away.

Behind the scenes with Majda

Then there’s Majda, with her calm persistence and fierce heart. One pandemic-era summer, a group of friends from around the world was due to arrive for a milestone birthday celebration. Flights were booked. Villas prepared. But at the last moment, one friend hit a visa snag. Many would have shrugged and said it was out of their hands. Not Majda.

She spent two days calling embassies, ministries and anyone else who might help. And she succeeded. The reunion went ahead. Tears were shed. Laughter flowed late into the night. And Majda quietly carried on.

When a global superstar found her peace

Perhaps no story better captures the grace with which Majda handles the unexpected than the time a global pop icon booked a villa. Her assistant insisted on trees planted immediately, might we add, to shield the pool from possible onlookers. The owner agreed. They were ready to dig.

But when the star arrived, she laughed. “This village is so small,” she said. “No one here even knows who I am.” For three glorious weeks, she wandered unrecognised, barefoot and beaming through ancient alleyways, dipping into the Adriatic and dining in local taverns. No headlines. Just happiness. And for Majda and the team, it was one of the most delightful surprises of all.

Secrets meant to be kept (and shared, sometimes)

There are secret spots on Hvar that Dalibor might whisper about, like hidden konobas in the wild east, the silent beauty of the south shore or villages where time forgot to rush. But Majda? She keeps her favourites to herself.

“We don’t have a huge number of clients,” she says. “We have a small number of very special clients. And secrets, well… they’re only secret if they stay between friends.” She may share her favourite spot for island doughnuts though, only if you promise to leave her some.

A holiday that feels like a homecoming

This is Villas Hvar. A deeply local team with global polish who live and breathe this island and for whom nothing is too much trouble. They don’t just plan your holiday. They open their world. And every once in a while, if you’re lucky, they’ll let you taste their figs.
